1TB SSD Sized like a Postage Stamp Tradisional Drive
More research in Japan have managed to successfully reduce the makings of a traditional SSD (solid state drive) so small that 1 TB of data could be stored on a device the size of a postage stamp. The company claims to have developed a technology that shrinks the traditional sized SSD decreased by 90% which makes them super light. As the decrease in physical size reduced to almost nothing, the chip has also enhanced the efficiency of 70%.

By creating an SSD fraction of the size and enhancing their effectiveness, it opens the way for storage of small (physical size) to be used in devices such as mobile phones and netbooks.
The research was conducted by a group of institutions such as Toshiba and Keio University. The picture above shows an example of what can be achieved and is a collection of 128 chips with NAND flash memory controller chip. The transfer rate achievable at the present time is about 2 Gbit / s. [via gadgetvenue]
