Acer Aspire 7735Z-424G32Mn 17.3in NoteBook
In our recent review of it could have complained too many long model of the Acer Aspire 7735Z-424G32Mn, but the company can justify a little because of the wide range of configurations appears to be offering this chassis. Today, for example, we look at the Aspire 7535G-824G50Mn, which – outside, at least – is physically identical. Inside, however, is a very different beast, sporting an AMD processor and ATI graphics chip rather than Intel equivalents The 7735Z’s.For a more detailed discussion on this frame, you should take a look at the previous review, but we’ll just have a quick run through. It does not seem too large for its size with tapered edges, while the sports cover attractive blue finish, which – as is so often the case – take fingerprints quite easily.

Inside things are a little different. Although there are touches of glossy black they are reserved for the less visible areas, the palm rest and touchpad finished in matte gray practice and matte black keyboard. It is a revolutionary blue power button and backlit buttons for the physical wireless radios (although this model is not Bluetooth) and backup. Finally, the Eco button on the 7735Z has been replaced by launching a feature on the 7535G Manager, essentially making a customizable shortcut key.
Like many phones now, the 7535G has a keyboard-type isolation – Acer’s take on one at least. It is very good, too, with keys well proportioned and a great layout that allows plenty of room for a full numeric keypad. However, despite an identical chassis this keyboard suffers from significant flex that the 7735Z does not. This is probably due to manufacturing variability, so hopefully will not be the case on all units sold at retail. On the other hand, the touchpad behaves identical to that found on the Twin portable, meaning sensitive, large surface is smooth but not slippery. Unfortunately this also means that the button to toggle the touchpad is just as stiff and awkward as before, making right-clicks a bit of a trial.

Connectivity is fairly standard, including video output VGA and HDMI, well-spaced, four USB ports, modem and Gigabit Ethernet, a memory card reader and the tray-loading DVD burner. Notable omissions are eSATA and ExpressCard slot, but the sound is well supported with three 3.5 analog audio jacks for surround sound, one of which also acts as a digital output. As with its twin, the sound performance is quite impressive for a budget notebook, and certainly enough for the film or casual game. Bass is not prodigious, but the speakers can reach decent volumes while maintaining a sense of clarity.
Unfortunately, the glossy 17.3in 1600 x 900 screen is fairly average, suffer from the disadvantages of the usual portable viewing angles, mediocre, average retailer and dark banding visible. This is to be expected that price, though – if you’re really demanding you need to spend much more on people like the Dell XPS Studio 16 with RGB LED-backlit display. [via trustedreviews]
