Canon PIXMA MP490 Network Connection Printer

The Contact Image Sensor (CIS) scanner is a single-sheet device, but is both quiet and easy to use and produces surprisingly good images. It is also used in the process of self-aligning print heads, scan back a test print. The only socket on the back of the machine is a USB cable, even if Canon continues to provide power direct network connection, thus avoiding the cumbersome blocks external HP, its main rival, continues to use.

Flip up the lid to the control panel, which is the right of the scanner cover, and you find it’s equipped with an LCD display 45 mm. This is a brilliant little unit, pretty good for the miniature and the display of menus and status messages – its main function. The control panel looks very similar to those of older brothers of the machine, except that the control “ring” is a four-way switch and not a click-wheel.

Another flip-open in the right front corner of the part of the case reveals three memory card slots, CompactFlash and Microdrive, but strangely there’s no PictBridge / USB port. It seems a strange choice to continue to support a card format largely abandoned by consumer devices, while excluding a connection that works with virtually any digital camera. DSLR users may appreciate the thought, but then they are unlikely to print directly from memory cards. [via trustedreviews]
