EC Finalises Windows Browser Choice Software
Preliminary Notice of the Commission was that competition was distorted by Microsoft Internet Explorer for bundling of Windows. This was because it offered an advantage Microsoft artificial division unrelated to the merits of his product on more than 90 percent of personal computers. In addition, the preliminary opinion of the Commission was that the incentives that hampered innovation in linking the market and artificially created for software developers and content providers to design their products or websites primarily for Internet Explorer.
Cynics say Microsoft back in May in a position of dominance with Windows and should be able to combine everything they want and Mac OS X should also be subject to the same decision and I have some sympathy for this view. Then again, with IE so horribly off the pace and the majority of users still in the dark about the alternatives above, it is hard not to rejoice at this result.
The only details that we lack now are: 1. When the screen voting going live, 2. What does it look like? and 3. What browsers are available and in what order? We’ve heard rumors that as many as 12 could be listed, but as of May only serve to sow confusion. [via trustedreviews]
