Lexmark Platinum Pro905 Inkjet All-in-One Printer

Two things separate the two models: a fax machine and an additional paper tray. The printer itself is very similar to the Prestige Pro and, as this machine has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) on the scanner. The Platinum Pro can double the production of two-sided copies, but only by feeding the original twice and scan the memory of the machine, the scanner head is one-sided and there is no supply duplex.

The control panel uses Lexmark’s wide-aspect touchscreen, which has enough room for large, easily distinguishable icons. The basic functions, like returning to the home page, and call for help starting and stopping of jobs are allocated to fixed buttons that light up only when their functions are available. The main screen includes copying, scanning, photo printing and faxing and screen settings are well laid out and very easy to work your way around. While there’s no support for the control of movement, if you can not drag the screen to browse through the icons, buttons and tactile icons are large enough to detect without problem.

There are card readers SD, MemoryStick and xD, but not CompactFlash. The PictBridge socket doubles as a USB drive and the firmware of the printer is smart enough to find all image files on a drive. Having a second tray of leaves is always useful, as you can load, for example, under the direction and regular paper at a time or use a tray for sheets of 15 x 10cm photo and one for the ‘A4. Each tray takes only 150 sheets, however, does not seem much for a machine by its price, is clearly aimed at the upper end of the SOHO market. [via trustedreviews]
