PsiXpda UMPC Touch Screen 3G Capable Ultraportable

We have grown familiar with getting sucked into an attractive piece of hardware ultramobile and then realize it is unlikely to travel outside of Taipei, it is almost a surprise to be written on a British new UMPC. PsiXpda’s eponymous UMPC packs a sliding switch from 4.8 to 800 x 480-inch resistive touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, Atom Z510 1.1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM and runs Windows XP.

There are also standard WiFi b / g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and two USB 2.0 ports (including mini USB) and optional 3G – from PsiXpda ship UMPCs around most of the planet, you can choose among WCDMA, EVDO variant or TD-SCDMA, which also maintain that voice calls – while storage is a 16GB SSD. They are claiming two to four hours duration of battery 1850 mAh, depending on the wireless connectivity. Size is 174 x 84 x 25mm and weighs 430g, and there is a touchpad on the screen bezel (with a webcam).

Eagle-eyed spotters will recognize the UMPC PsiXpda that MIDPhone DigiCube-50, also available in China now that the S515 Eking, and in fact it is a rebadged version of the device. Considering you regularly visit an importer (or buy direct from the manufacturer themselves, if they offer this option) to buy something like this, however, we are a little more comfortable moving an order with a firm based in the United Kingdom. PsiXpda initial are also underway on the potential for piracy of the UMPC, and promised to support non-install XP with the drivers and love as much as possible.

Of course, a niche product, is found with a price tag niche, and UMPC PsiXpda comes to £ 500 ($ 830). At the upper limit for Netbook-style material, certainly, but we believe they will find at least some buyers (not to mention the vertical markets like healthcare). SlashGear actually sitting with a prototype PsiXpda few weeks ago, and UMPC certainly promise. Everything is fairly mild, and the screen hinge felt solid despite the prototype stage. As expected, the QWERTY keyboard lacks travel, but it’s still big enough to peck comfortable. [via slashgear]
