Samsung SCX-4600 Laser Multifunction Printers
In laser-based multifunction printers continue to fall in price and Samsung SCX-4600 is one of the cheapest we tested. Two smidge over 100 pounds, he is still far from a machine entry level and is quite suitable as a workhorse home and small office. Adorned in black with frosted high gloss trim on the edges, the machine is squat and useful on the desktop. The easy-to-lift lid of the scanner is supplied with the extension hinges so you can put a book on the flat and still close.
Directly in front of the scanner is a simple control panel but functional, the full width of the machine. There is a 2 x 16 characters LCD, which even without backlight is easy to read in normal light. To the right of this consists of four rings button with an OK button in the center and a blue LED ring around the outside, which cycles round when the SCX-4600 prints. Three buttons to the right of the ring to respond to the copy of ID cards, scan to PC and print the current screen. This function is so far unique to laser printers and multifunction Samsung, and gives a reduced image of the current screen in a single click. This is an extra handy, especially if the screen contains a page of a website.
Under the control panel is a slot on the production tool and even if it has a small paper and extending flip-up stop, it is not really necessary if you use A4 paper, which intends to 25mm and is now easier to collect when work is completed. You can lift the scanner section of the printer up slightly if you need to get a hand to deal with paper jams, but we have not had any problems during testing.
A 250-sheet paper tray sits at the bottom of the front and there is a single slot-sheet feeder for special media, just above. Basically it is just taking a single data for USB, as this machine has no network connection. Drivers are provided for versions of Windows from 2000 and from OSX 10.3. Drivers for various Linux distributions are downloadable. Software installation is simple and includes the management of the core document and the OCR software.The only consumable is a single drum and toner cartridge, which slipped from the front, once you’ve pulled the front cover. The cartridge comes pre-installed, but you should remove it, remove the protective tape and reinsert it before printing. [via trustedreviews]

Does this printer work with Linux? I can’t find drivers for it anywhere.
