Samsung WB500 10.2MP Sensor Digital Camera
He made several months I have not reviewed a Samsung camera, and in the meantime, the giant Korean electronics has completely renewed its range. I hope to get many of these new models in the coming weeks, but for now, I have one of the most interesting of them, the WB500. Even if only the base model of the WB series of creative, he has an impressive specification, with a 10.2MP sensor, a 2.7-inch LCD monitor, 720p HD video recording, limited control of manual exposure and an industry first, a 10x zoom with a 24mm wide-angle equivalent.
As I have already noticed, the long-zoom compact market is extremely competitive, and WB500 will go up against some very strong competitors lately, including the Canon SX200 IS, the Ricoh CX2, the Olympus Mju 9000, and of course the reference category, the Panasonic TZ7. The WB500 offers a specification that compares to any of these, but it costs only € 170. This is the advantage of being the world’s largest company conglomerate, when you make all the components yourself, you can hit some very advanced technologies at prices ridiculously low.
The WB500 made a good impression straight out of the box. The body has a proper form and a grip thumbgrip and elegantly carved back and feels substantial and solid in the hand. It is quite sturdy as compact cameras go, measuring 105 x 61.4 x 36.5 mm, making it slightly larger than the TZ7 or CX2 and much larger than the Mju 9000, although a few thinner than the SX200.
His body is all-solid aluminum with a superb build quality, although its sturdy construction, added to the weight of this enormous f/3.3-5.8 4.2-42mm Schneider-Kreuznach dominating the front does make the rather heavy WB500. Approximately 240g with battery, the town is the heaviest in its class, corresponding to the Canon SX200. [via trustedreviews]
