Samsung YP-Q2 Incredible Sound Quality Media Player
I have a lot of time for sub-Samsung YP-Q1 PMP. It may not have the style of the iPod nano or the incredible sound quality of Sony NWZ-S639F – and it also has one of the worst touch controls known to man – but it is a large survey, decent looking player with a good user interface and better support the audio file format that competition from Sony or Apple. Best of all, it is relatively inexpensive, making it a decent PMP for those who can not quite stretch to a player or an iPod. Samsung brings us a suite that now – finally, and much later than I hoped – I managed to get my hand. Could we have a winner on our hands this time?

Well, first impressions are certainly good. The YP-Q1 has a slick, stylish design, but the YP-Q2, it is even better. At 49mm x 101mm x 10mm, it is slightly larger than the T1, but also a little thinner and lighter. The diamond used to show the limits of tactile D-pad has disappeared, leaving the reader to the stripped 2.4in screen, a metallic ambience around the front of the unit and decals for the “return” and “menu options and the Samsung logo.
The rear now has a solid, textured, bright and unity as a whole feels more robust than the T1, although not quite as strong as aluminum or nano-bullets practically Sony NWZ S and X-series Walkmans. Otherwise, the main physical changes are the exchange of the old power / lock slider for a double function / power button lock and a key defined by the user that you can assign different functions depending on the current mode, the player is in. annoyingly, Samsung stuck to its proprietary USB connector, but everything seems to be the form of vessels.
Admittedly, I was a little worried to see the Q1 tactile control back, it’s always better to have a single button control system that operates on a flashy alternative that does not. This time, however, the controls are much less sensitive and much more predictable. Cool blue LED behind the sign clearly indicating where you can find the cursor and select keys, and small areas used in fact the YP-Q2 easier than its predecessor to use, rather than difficult. Combine that with an interface that is basically a more colorful on the sophistication perfectly logical on the YP-Q1, and you have a player who is almost a pleasure to find your way.
ID3 tag browsing is simple and painless, and there are useful options like the ability to define intervals between tracks and create playlists on the fly. The interface also has some touches of style, as in full screen, next to the album and a series of groovy visualizations in the Now Playing view, not to mention the possibility of using the touch controls for sweep left to right through securities in the same album or albums by the same artist. In this area, at least Samsung is comfortably ahead of most competitors in the Far East. [via trustedreviews]
