Sony Alpha A230 DSLR System Digital Camera
All major manufacturers have entry level DSLR in their line-ups. They are generally sold with a standard zoom lens kit or twin lens kit with the addition of a telephoto lens. The Pentax Km (£ 380, including 18-55mm Lens), Nikon has the new D3000 (£ 434, including 18-55mm VR), the Canon EOS 1000D (£ 385, including 18-55mm), while Olympus has its market price E-420 (£ 290, including 14-42mm lens). Sony, always anxious to expand its growing market share of digital SLRs, today updated its own entry model range, so now I take a look at the new Alpha A230, which is currently available with a lens for a new kit very competitive £ 330.

Buying an entry-level digital SLR is a serious matter, because you are not just buying a camera, you buy a system. Once you choose a camera and a lens, and you’ve made a few months and learned to appreciate the control and higher image quality, you’ll probably want to buy maybe a spare battery, then an additional lens, and perhaps a good Flashgun. Before you know you have an ever growing collection of accessories that cost more than the original camera.

The trouble is that once you exceed the capabilities of your camera level input and want to move to something a little more sophisticated, you will naturally want to always be able to use all these accessories, so rather than sell everything and move to a different system you’re much more likely to buy a camera of average power, the same brand. These conclusions are based in brand loyalty is the reason why the big camera companies are so quick to make us buy all digital cameras and other camera system. They know that if they can sell you a kit entry level they probably have a customer for life. They may not make much profit on the entry of cameras, lenses but these ones are a gold mine.
The Sony Alpha DSLR system is relatively new, having only been launched in 2006, but it is based on the old system Minolta Maxxum and Sony Alpha cameras can use many of the old Minolta and Konica-Minolta accessories, including a wide range of High quality lenses are readily available on the secondhand market. Sony’s own range of lenses, including the fantastic T * Carl Zeiss lens, is steadily rising, and there are good beaches of compatible Sony lens, from outside suppliers, including Sigma and Tamron.
The A230, as you’d probably expect for the price, a very basic model with only the bare minimum of functionality. To keep development costs to a minimum, it has the same Sony-made 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor earlier in the Alpha A100 and A200. In fact, almost the same device as the A200, but with a new body design and a new 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens compact. [via trustedreviews]
