Sony Walkman NWZ-S544 8GB Media Player

The changes are immediately obvious. The S544 is significantly larger than the NWZ-S639F. The reason for this increase in size is that under the current trend of adding features slightly Gimmicky (hello, iPod nano), Refreshed Sony Walkman S Series comes complete with integrated speakers that add a healthy dose of size (but not weight, it must be said) on the drive.

While there are advantages to having built-in speakers. Laying in bed with Charlie Brooker’s Gameswipe transferred to the S544, for example, it is possible to keep the volume low enough so that there is no distortion. Even so, with the volume it could be difficult to hear the program over the raucous laughter, it can cause. More specifically, you can use the S544 as an alarm without having to sleep with ‘Phones (which is just a bit impractical) or leave a set of speakers connected and turned on.

In the outside world, however, using speakers of a player is almost unforgivable. I can not say that I never wanted to sit in a bus or train and bustle my music for everyone to “enjoy”, which is probably very uncharitable of me because I have a impeccable taste. Unfortunately, however, not everyone is as measured as me and the quality of the 544’s speakers at high volume enough to hear anything other than in a totally silent environment that what you do hear is a jumble of incoherent noise.
